Dragons victorious against Y Glannau Veterans

16 04 2012

The North Wales Dragons started their season in fine style this past weekend coming back from a goal down to win the game by 2 goals to 1 away against Y Glannau Veterans. As it was a friendly it was a chance for manager Chris Roberts to test the new 4-3-3 system. The back 4 was also a new unit having never played with each other before.

Straight from kick off, Y Glannau put the Dragons under pressure with their 4 in midfield out numbering the Dragons 3 and their persistant pressure paid off in the 11th minute when they were awarded a free kick 20 yards from goal. This was taken whilst there was confusion with the Dragons setting up the wall and 3 passes later, the ball was in the back of the net.

Y Glannau smelling the victory continued to attack, but strong Dragons resistance combined with pacey counter attacking proved to be the key for the comeback. On 27 minutes a break set up by the impressive Barry Haydock who played a clever ball out to Dave Owen who beat his man and layed the ball off to Mark Williams who put Martin Anderson through for a neat finish to the keepers right hand side.

The Dragons, lifted by the goal found a new confidence and just 6 minutes later found themselves 2-1 up – Martin Anderson again instrumental shrugged off 2 midfield challenges and found Mark Williams; with work still to do in the form of 2 defenders, ‘Berger’ got past the both of them combining skill and pace, tucking the ball away to the keepers bottom left.

The Dragons could feel disappointed that they weren’t awarded a penalty toward the end of the half when Steve Roberts was felled in the box in what looked to be a foul, but the referee shook his head.

HT – Y Glannau Vets 1-2 North Wales Dragons

The Dragons stuck with what was working for the second half. Immediately the men in yellow were met with an onslaught of attacks and challenges from the Y Glannau midfield and front men. With an hour gone, changes were made as Jordan Davies and Steve Roberts made way for Jodey Brown-Williams and Leigh Ward.

The substitutes brought a much needed freshness to the team at a time where Y Glannau could have evened up the game. With backs to the wall, the formation was reset to a more familiar set up to close the game up and hit on the counter. Efforts from Martin Anderson, Leigh Ward, Jodey Brown-Williams and Dave Owen all ended without reward. With not much time to be added on and Y Glannau laying siege to the Dragons goal, the final whistle went, allowing the Dragons to record their first win of the season.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank CPD Y Glannau Vets for their sportsmanship and hospitality after the game. We hope to see you all on the field again very soon.

Until next time

Sponsor the Dragons

3 02 2012

Over the years the North Wales Dragons have gained a lot of funds for their chosen charities by having things sponsored. Many great companies have supported the Dragons idea and for this we can’t thank them enough.

Our main shirt sponsors, are showing their support for the second year.

Network She, the networking group only for women are showing their support as our short sponsors.

Picture This, are our kit printers for the fourth year running.

Our supporters Team ES Racing carried the Dragons logo on car 78 in the 2011 BTCC Season.

We are always looking for new ways to raise funds and awareness for our chosen charities. This year is no exception as we go all out for “Join the fight” Breast Cancer Research.

We are offering some great sponsorship opportunities to companies all over the UK.  In return for sponsorship we can offer you advertising in match day programs, on our website and across our huge network of fans on all major social media networks.

What needs sponsoring?

The Bus – We are for the first time travelling nationwide to our matches this year, first we are off to Sheffield, and then on to Scotland.

The Jackets – We are on the lookout for jackets for our team. The sponsor of these jackets will have their logo printed on to the jacket, these will be worn for all of our events, and at stops on the way to and from the event.

The Program – Our programs always prove to be a good read, giving plenty of information about our sponsors, our players and the Charites we have chosen.

The Players – This is a first for the Dragons. For £20.00 you can sponsor a player, your name will then be printed in the program next to the players shirt. We have 18 players so be sure to act fast

If you would like more information please contact us via email or through any of the social media sites.

Until next time

The Players

25 01 2012

Hello and welcome to another blog by the North Wales Dragons.

The players are continuing to work hard on and off the field as we raise funds and awareness for “Join The Fight” Breast Cancer Research. If you wish to donate you can do so, at our Just Giving page.

As we speak, we are getting ready to take part in our short sponsors networking event. Network She presents “All you need to know about boobs“. This is a great chance for the fans to meet some of our players and to get to know them a little bit more.

For our players, it is a rare occasion where a ball won’t be kicked. We are not trained professionals, we are as they say “Couch Footballers”, but each of our players has a passion for the sport and we are able to show this when we step on to the pitch, and we are thrilled to be able to show this off the pitch at this event.

Until next time
